Recitals

Besides each teacher's own studio scheduled recitals, MTOD hosts three to four student recitals each year. Students from various teachers’ studios are presented in a public performance. Each program is no longer than one hour, and usually less. A student must have studied with a teacher for at least six months and be in Level One or higher to participate. Students are expected to perform from memory, but are allowed to use music at the teacher’s discretion.

Repertoire must be original music and does not include pop, except for the first recital of the school year, held in September, which is only for pop, jazz, blues, and ragtime music.

Festivals

Each May, students participate in the Festival performing music from the Baroque and Classical periods for two years and the next two years performing music from the Romantic and Contemporary periods.

Master Classes

MTOD offers each year an "open lesson" where one of our prestigious teachers instructs some of the more advanced students. These master classes are beneficial not only for the student being taught, but also for other pupils, as well as for parents and teachers, by establishing the level of understanding of the musical score, together with the expectation in executing it.
